Good news is you must be taking great care of your fish for them to be spawning in your tank. This is quite an accomplishment for someone who has only been keeping fish for three months. Clown Loaches and Plecos are quite neutral fish and will generally keep to themselves, the other fish usually respect that and don't bother them as well, it's a mutual understanding. However, they will eat eggs if given the opportunity, so there are a lot of variables.

If you do want to raise the fry it would be best to have a separate breeding tank for the Convicts, you can also get a divider for the aquarium if your tank is big enough. Then you’ll need a grow out tank for your fry, and have a food source for them, and many of the other things mentioned in the article. Doing all of this after having fish for three months might be a bit much, so it may be best to ease into it over time. That decision is still ultimately yours, if you decide to do nothing the fish will not be harmed, it’s just a natural cycle. I have a Severum in her own 55 gallon tank and she lays eggs once a month or so and defends them like crazy when anyone gets close to the tank, even to feed her. The eggs aren’t fertilized, and no fry will ever be born, but it still happens. If you’d like more information I suggest picking up the book I advertise on here, has a lot more information on breeding fish, what you will need, and if it is right for you. Good luck and keep us updated from time to time.

I have just noticed in the last couple of days that my convicts have eggs (which Im sure are eggs) on and hidden in various parts of a log i have in my tank!! Very exciting
I checked this morning, the eggs themselves have gone, however the mother fish (who I assume is the mother) is guarding the log feircly, and not leaving the site of where the eggs were originally visable.

I have not had tropical fish for long (about 3 months) and find it very exciting and facinating!! I have a couple of other fish in my tank, which she is not really bothered by (clown loaches and a couple of suckermouth fish - pleco's) I was concerned that these might eat the eggs, however, the mother fish appears to know when the near the log, and she gets rid of them in very agressive fashion :)
I am very happy and facinated by all of this, and the info you have on here is great.. being a novice to all of this, I want to make sure the mum and her babies are going to be okay :)

Thanks

Its been years since I've had fish and I became interested in breeding them again when I went to the Georgia aquarium last week. I've been cycling my old 30 gallon tank with some danios I picked up. I also bought some albino angelfish off that site you linked to, I like their eyes. They should be here tomorrow and hopefully in a month or two I'll be able to start breeding them. I'll tell you how it goes, thanks for the information.
